Dr. Ryan
Schroeder
Biological dentistry is different than traditional dentistry in many respects. When you first call to make an appointment you will not be scheduled for a cleaning. The business assistant will ask for some background information, get your phone number and address, and send you directions and a health history to fill out in advance. Your first visit will be with Dr. Schroeder. It is very important to collect data about the patient prior to scheduling for any type of dental work, even a cleaning
There are several different types of cleaning appointments available. It must be ascertained from the patient data which type is most appropriate for you. For instance, if a patient has severe periodontal disease, a "regular" cleaning is not the correct form of therapy. A patient should have their gingival tissues and supporting bone evaluated prior to the cleaning.
At the first visit Dr. Schroeder will personally sit down with you and review your medical and dental history. He will review any x-rays that you may have brought with you. He will ask you what your main concerns are. At this visit a blood pressure will be taken. A panorex , bitewing x-rays, and a thorough oral examination will also be accomplished.
At the second visit Dr. Schroeder sits down with the patient and reviews the findings. He will discuss the state of your teeth, gum tissues, and supporting bone as well as their potential affect on your overall health. The consult is designed to be educational and informative. It gives the patient the information they need to make the best decisions about their oral health. The consultation usually lasts from 30 - 45 minutes. It is customarily followed by the initial session with the hygienist to begin a soft tissue management program.
There are different programs available depending on the health of the patient. If a person has chronic health problems (such as chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, severe allergies) then Dr. Schroeder will ask them to see one of the physicians with whom he works. Many chronic diseases are related to a depressed immune system. If you have silver fillings, they contain as much as 50% mercury. The mercury is constantly leaking from the fillings and may cause health problems for some people (see the education section for more information). The physicians with which Dr. Schroeder works will test the patient for a possible mercury burden. They will start the patient on supplements to both help rebuild the immune system and start the detoxifying process.
A blood compatibility test is required for chronically ill patients. This is an antigen-antibody test. This will allow Dr. Schroeder to use dental materials that the body has never had a response to in the past thus helping to ease the stress on the immune system. The team approach is an excellent way to aid the health of a compromised patient.
Healthy individuals do not normally need a blood compatibility test. The materials that Dr. Schroeder routinely uses are very safe and biocompatible. Of course, if a healthy person would like to have the blood compatibility test, that is easily arranged.
